Dronning Margrethe II Bridge: A strategic link for Denmark

The Dronning Margrethe II Bridge is Denmark’s third largest bridge, stretching approximately 4 kilometres across the Storstrøm strait. Replacing the existing bridge from 1937, the project strengthens the strategic rail and road corridor between Denmark and Germany and supports increased passenger and freight traffic linked to the future Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link.

Strategic connectivity

The Dronning Margrethe II Bridge strengthens a key transport corridor between Denmark and Germany, supporting both regional and international mobility. Replacing the existing 1937 bridge, the new connection enables increased rail and road capacity and plays an important role in the Scandinavian–Mediterranean transport network. It supports growing passenger and freight flows linked to the future Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link, improving reliability and efficiency across borders.

The new bridge replaces the existing Storstrøm crossing between Zealand and Falster, creating a modern transport link in Denmark. The Dronning Margrethe II is Denmark’s third largest bridge, after the Øresund Bridge and the Great Belt Bridge, both of which Ramboll also helped deliver. The new 27-metre-wide post-tensioned concrete box structure will carry electrified double-track rail services at speeds of up to 200 km/h, alongside a two-lane road and pedestrian and bicycle paths.
